The Kansas City Royals acquired outfielder Norichika Aoki from Milwaukee to be their leadoff hitter, which means the Brewers are poised to shift Ryan Braun to right field. Milwaukee received the left-hander Will Smith, 24, who went 8-10 with a 4.76 earned run average in 35 games over parts of two seasons with the Royals. Aoki, 32, hit .286 with 8 homers, 37 runs batted in and 20 steals last season.
The rookie Khris Davis filled in when Braun was suspended 65 games for violating baseball's antidrug agreement, hitting .279 with 11 homers. By moving Aoki, the Brewers could open next season with Davis in left, Carlos Gomez in center and Braun in right.
