Texas voters rejected a plan to convert the Houston Astrodome into a convention center, very likely dooming it to demolition. The stadium opened in 1965 but has not been home to a pro team since 1999 and was closed in 2009.

■ Seattle hired the Detroit hitting coach Lloyd McClendon as manager. McClendon replaces Eric Wedge, who quit at the end of the season, citing differences with the front office.

■ Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers can repeat as American League most valuable player after being named one of three finalists. He was joined by Chris Davis of the Orioles and Mike Trout of the Angels. In the National League, Paul Goldschmidt of the Diamondbacks, Andrew McCutchen of the Pirates and Yadier Molina of the Cardinals are finalists.
