Jakob Silfverberg scored twice, Jonas Hiller made 34 saves for his 17th N.H.L. shutout, and Anaheim routed the Rangers, 6-0, on Thursday night in the home opener of the Ducks' 20th season.
Teemu Selanne and Mathieu Perreault assisted on both goals by linemate Silfverberg, who had the second two-goal game of his career. He has scored four goals in his first four games with the team. Dustin Penner and Daniel Winnik each added a goal and an assist.
The Rangers have been outscored, 20-6, to start their first season under the new coach Alain Vigneault. The Rangers lost, 9-2, at San Jose on Tuesday.
The Ducks outshot the Rangers, 37-34, for their third win in a row in the teams' first meeting in nearly two years.
Playing without the injured All-Star forward Rick Nash, the Rangers fell to 1-3 on their nine-game trip, the longest to open a season in franchise history.
Nash was hit in the face by San Jose's Brad Stuart on Tuesday. Stuart received a three-game suspension for an illegal check to the head.
Henrik Lundqvist, a finalist for the Vezina Trophy last season, stopped 31 shots in losing for the third time in four games.
The Ducks built a 3-0 lead on goals by Ryan Getzlaf, Silfverberg and Winnik in the first period, when Anaheim outshot the Rangers, 17-3. Silfverberg's initial goal came on a tip-in.
The Rangers were the league's least-penalized team last season, but they racked up 26 minutes' worth in the first. Derek Dorsett accounted for 19 minutes, including a 10-minute misconduct after instigating a fight with Anaheim's Bryan Allen.
Silfverberg struck again 1:27 into the second, scoring on a long rebound that caught Lundqvist out of the net. The play began when Benoit Pouliot gave away the puck in the Rangers' zone.
Saku Koivu made it 5-0 on a wrist shot, and Penner beat Lundqvist glove side to score his first goal of the season, giving the Ducks three more goals in the period.
The Rangers cut their penalties to one in the second, when they kept Hiller busier by outshooting the Ducks, 14-13, but still had nothing to show for it.
MAPLE LEAFS 4, PREDATORS 0 Jonathan Bernier made 36 saves and Phil Kessel had a goal and two assists to lead visiting Toronto past Nashville.
James van Riemsdyk, Tyler Bozak and Joffrey Lupul also scored for the Maple Leafs, who have won four of five this season. Nashville has lost three of four. Bernier extended his domination of Nashville, improving his career record against the Predators to 8-1. He stopped eight shots in the first period, 17 in the second and 11 in the third for his first shutout this season and the seventh of his career.
After a scoreless opening period, Kessel scored the first goal at 13 minutes 41 seconds of the second. Following a face-off in the Nashville zone, the puck went below the goal line on the right side. Van Riemsdyk quickly grabbed it and whipped a backhand pass to Kessel in the low slot, where he one-timed the puck past goalie Pekka Rinne. It was Kessel's second goal of the season. He signed a $64 million, eight-year contract extension just before the start of the season.
Just before the end of the second period, Kessel's shot hit Rinne up high, and the rebound landed just to the right of the Nashville net. Rinne squatted down to cover the puck, but van Riemsdyk took it before Rinne could get his glove on it and carried it around to the opposite side, where he slid it into the open net.
Late in the game, Nashville forward Mike Fisher was assessed a major for boarding and a game misconduct after hitting former Predators defenseman Cody Franson into the boards by the Toronto bench. Franson left a pool of blood on the ice and did not return. Bozak and Lupul scored on the ensuing power play.
HURRICANES 3, CAPITALS 2 Nathan Gerbe scored the tiebreaking goal at 6:59 of the third period, Anton Khudobin stopped 30 shots, and visiting Carolina beat Washington.
Elias Lindholm and a former Capital, Alexander Semin, also scored for the Hurricanes, now 25-2-4 over the past nine seasons against Washington when scoring at least three goals. Jason Chimera and Alex Ovechkin had goals for the Capitals, who took four of five from Carolina last season.
AVALANCHE 2, BRUINS 0 Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 39 saves in his 37th N.H.L. shutout, and Colorado stayed perfect with a victory at Boston.
