Mavericks’ Owner Chides Baseball

Mark Cuban, the Dallas Mavericks' owner, delivered sharp comments about Major League Baseball and its stance toward Alex Rodriguez during an interview shown Thursday on "The Tonight Show."

"I think it's disgraceful what Major League Baseball is trying to do to him," Cuban said. "Look, it's not that he doesn't deserve to be suspended. He does. They have policies in place: a first-time offender is 50 games, and a second time is 100." Referring to Rodriguez's 211-game suspension, Cuban added, "That's personal."

Cuban also directly criticized Commissioner Bud Selig.

"It's basically become Bud Selig's mafia," Cuban said, acknowledging that such a comment would probably preclude him from owning a baseball team, which he has tried to do on multiple occasions. "He runs it the way he wants to run it."
