The Oklahoma State sophomore Jordan Niebrugge won the United States Amateur Public Links at Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Va. The winner of the event traditionally receives a spot in the Masters if he is still an amateur.

Niebrugge defeated the California junior Michael Kim by 1 up in the 36-hole final.

■ Beatriz Recari birdied the two closing par-5 holes to move back into a tie for the lead with Paula Creamer through three rounds of the L.P.G.A.'s Marathon Classic in Sylvania, Ohio. Recari and Creamer each shot a four-under-par 67 for a total of 12-under 201. Lexi Thompson, Jacqui Concolino and Chie Arimura were three shots back.

■ Nicholas Thompson shot a second consecutive 65 to move into a tie for the lead after the third round of the P.G.A.'s Sanderson Farms Championship in Madison, Miss., setting up a potential rare family double. Thompson, whose 18-year-old sister, Lexi, was in contention at the Marathon Classic, had a two-shot lead along with Daniel Summerhays at 17 under. Only two brother-sister combinations have won on the elite tours, and none have managed the feat in the same week. (REUTERS)
