MILWAUKEE — Shaun Marcum was effective for two years here while pitching for the Milwaukee Brewers, but a return to his old ballpark on Saturday could not resuscitate him from a prolonged funk.

After posting a 20-11 record and 3.60 E.R.A. as a Brewers starter the previous two seasons, Shaun Marcum has a 1-10 record and 5.29 E.R.A. during his first year on the Mets.

Marcum worked five sluggish innings and took the loss as the Mets fell, 7-6, at Miller Park. After posting a 20-11 record and 3.60 earned run average as a Brewers starter the previous two seasons, Marcum has a 1-10 record and 5.29 E.R.A. during his first year with the Mets.

"It was nice to come back, but obviously, I wish the results were a little better, a little different," said Marcum, who gave up 6 runs (5 earned) and 11 hits.

Marcum felt stiffness around his shoulder and experienced numbness through his hand during his previous start and had a magnetic resonance imaging test that came back negative. Marcum felt "numbness and tingling and a cold hand" again Saturday, but he said he would try for now to pitch through it.

"As my pitch count builds up, that's when I usually notice it and feel it," Marcum said, "and you can tell, too, because my velocity drops a little bit. It's something I'll deal with and try to find a way to get guys out when it's my turn to go."

Marcum put the Mets down early, but they clawed back to make it close. John Buck's home run opened their scoring and highlighted a two-run fifth, and he produced a two-run single the next inning. Marlon Byrd added a seventh-inning sacrifice fly and a ninth-inning solo home run.

Ike Davis played first base and batted cleanup for the second straight game since being recalled from the minor leagues. He went 0 for 2 with three walks and a strikeout. He also stole a base for the first time since 2010, improving his career total to four.
