First baseman Ike Davis's minor league exile appears to be over. He will rejoin his Mets teammates in Milwaukee on Friday, according to a person in baseball with knowledge of the move, and it is expected that he will be in the lineup in this weekend's three-game series against the Brewers.
Davis was sent to Class AAA Las Vegas on June 10 after a horrendous first two months of the season in which he hit .161. In the minors, he worked to simplify a complicated swing that included a lot of hand movement. He hit .293 with seven home runs in 92 plate appearances with Las Vegas, but the challenge will be for him to do the same against major league pitching.
In Davis's absence, the minor league call-up Josh Satin thrived at first base for the Mets, hitting .353. How much he will play with Davis back in the lineup remains to be seen.
