Eufemiano Fuentes, the doctor at the center of the Operation Puerto blood-doping trial, said he never treated Real Madrid's players, after the club's announcement that it planned to sue him for giving the impression that he had. Fuentes told Europa Press news agency on Saturday that "if Madrid wants to sue me, they can go ahead, but I have never treated a Real Madrid player."

The Times's soccer blog has the world's game covered from all angles.

"Madrid has nothing to do with Operation Puerto," he said. "I am not nor have I ever been a doctor for Real Madrid, neither directly nor indirectly. I have never given a Madrid player as much as an aspirin."

Fuentes said Friday that Madrid owed him money without specifying a reason. The club said that the money owed Fuentes was for travel expenses when he testified in a case against the newspaper Le Monde.

¶ Russia's World Cup qualifier at Northern Ireland was postponed for a second straight day because of wintry weather. Heavy snow initially led to the match being postponed Friday. More snow fell on the field Saturday, and ice formed. No new date was set. Russia (4-0) leads Group F with 12 points.
