In an animated news conference Friday, Jets Coach Rex Ryan vehemently denied a report that he would be looking to leave the team if the owner Woody Johnson did not make off-season upgrades to the offense.

Rex Ryan said on Friday that the Jets are the "only team I want to coach — period."

"That is totally untrue," Ryan said. "This is the only team that I want to coach, period."
Ryan said he was "mad as a hornet" about a report in Friday's editions of The Daily News that indicated Ryan felt he was better off getting fired after the season if Johnson would not make coaching and personnel changes to the Jets, who are currently 6-9 and will miss the playoffs for the second consecutive season. Ryan considered the report "total garbage."
"The premise that I'd rather go somewhere else to coach somebody else's football team, no way," Ryan said.
Ryan said he addressed the issue with his players Friday morning and also called Johnson, explaining that the report "100 percent" did not reflect his view. Ryan has two years and $6 million left on his contract but said he wanted to be the Jets coach "for the next 15 years."
This will be Ryan's first losing record since he took over in 2009, and on and off the field the team has been a disaster. The offense is ranked 30th in the league under the first-year coordinator Tony Sparano.
Nonetheless, Ryan brought up the fact that his father, Buddy, coached with the Jets from 1968-1975 and he grew up a Jets fan.
"I'm proud to be a Jet," Ryan said. "This season's been a rough one, no question. This is my team. That's how I approach it. I believe we will get back."
