The Times's soccer blog has the world's game covered from all angles.

John Terry, the Chelsea captain, was carried off the field with a leg injury in his first game since being suspended for racially insulting an opponent. Fifteen minutes before the injury, Terry scored his 50th goal with Chelsea, which went on to a 1-1 tie with visiting Liverpool in the Premier League.

¶ Lionel Messi surpassed Pelé's milestone of 75 goals in a calendar year, scoring for the 75th and 76th times in 2012 to lead Barcelona to a 4-2 victory at Mallorca in Spain's top league. Messi, an Argentine forward, is nine goals from Gerd Müller's record.

¶ The host Houston Dynamo beat D.C. United, 3-1, in the first leg of the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference finals. The Los Angeles Galaxy defeated the visiting Seattle Sounders, 3-0, in the first leg of the Western Conference finals.
