D. A. Points came back from a long rain delay and made four pars Sunday, the last one giving him a one-shot victory in the Houston Open and a trip to the Masters. With a putter he once borrowed from his mother and never returned, Points rolled in a putt from just outside 12 feet on the final hole to polish off a six-under 66 and avoid a sudden-death playoff with Henrik Stenson and Billy Horschel.
It was quite a turnaround for Points, whose only other PGA Tour win was at Pebble Beach two years ago. He started the year by missing the cut seven times in nine tournaments. He arrived at the tournament at Redstone Golf Club in Humble, Texas, having not broken 70 in his last nine rounds. But he stayed in the hunt after opening with a 64, and he kept his calm when he returned to the golf course after a rain delay of nearly three hours.

Sunderland took a gamble by hiring the inexperienced and outspoken Paolo Di Canio as its manager, giving him the tough task of ensuring that the relegation-threatened team retains its Premier League status.
The appointment came a day after Martin O'Neill was fired and sparked immediate controversy, with the former British politician David Miliband resigning from his positions as vice chairman and nonexecutive director of the club because of Di Canio's openly fascist leanings.
Di Canio had a colorful playing career in the top divisions of Italy, England and Scotland, marked by sublime goals and headline-grabbing antics — notably when he routinely gave Nazi salutes to Lazio fans in Italy, and when he pushed a referee to the ground after being sent off while playing for Sheffield Wednesday in 1998.
Usain Bolt opened his season with a 150-meter win on a track set up at Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro. Bolt cruised to victory in 14.42 seconds, falling short of the world-best mark of 14.35 he set on the streets of Manchester, England, in 2009. The Brazilian sprinter Bruno Lins was second in 14.91, ahead of Alex Quinones of Ecuador and Daniel Bailey of Antigua and Barbuda.
Bolt said he was satisfied with his performance. The race was held under scorching heat on a four-lane track built on Copacabana beach in the host city of the 2016 Olympics.
"Definitely a good start for the season," Bolt said.
Kimmo Timonen got the tying goal with 9.5 seconds left in regulation, and Ruslan Fedotenko scored 1 minute 34 seconds into overtime as the host Philadelphia Flyers beat the Washington Capitals, 5-4, on Sunday night.

BLUE JACKETS 2, DUCKS 1 Mark Letestu set up a goal in regulation and then scored four minutes into overtime to lead host Columbus past Anaheim.
The victory improved the Blue Jackets to 9-0-3 in their last 12 games at Nationwide Arena and gave them points in 15 of their last 17 games (10-2-5) to creep into the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference.
BLACKHAWKS 7, RED WINGS 1 Brandon Saad had two goals and an assist, and Dave Bolland scored twice in as Chicago overwhelmed host Detroit.
Jonathan Toews added a goal and two assists, and Jeremy Morin and Nick Leddy also scored for Chicago. KINGS 3, STARS 2 Brad Richardson and Justin Williams scored third-period goals a little more than a minute apart to help lift Los Angeles to victory in Dallas.
Jeff Carter also scored for the Kings, who have lost once in regulation in Dallas in their last 14 visits (11-1-2). It was Carter's 20th goal of the season.
BRUINS 2, SABRES 0 David Krejci and Nathan Horton scored goals less than three minutes apart in the third period, and Anton Khudobin stopped 26 shots to lead visiting Boston over Buffalo.
The Bruins closed to a point behind first-place Montreal in the Northeast Division.
CROSBY HAS BROKEN JAW The Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby has a broken jaw and is out indefinitely after being hit in the mouth with a puck during a win against the Islanders on Saturday.
The Penguins said on their Web site Sunday that Crosby had surgery Saturday night and that there would be an update on his status later in the week.
Crosby, the N.H.L.'s leading scorer, was struck in the face during the first period of the Penguins' 2-0 victory. Slow-motion replays showed multiple teeth flying out of his mouth after the puck struck him during his first shift. The team said Crosby had "major dental work" and would have more done later in the week.
The Penguins have won 15 straight games; their next game is against Buffalo on Tuesday.
After Saturday's game, Penguins Coach Dan Bylsma did not rule out the possibility that Crosby would have an evaluation for a concussion.
Rick Ankiel and Houston made an impressive debut in the American League, trouncing visiting Texas, 8-2, in the major league opener and giving Bo Porter a win in his first game as manager.
Ankiel launched a pinch-hit three-run homer, Bud Norris pitched well for the win and Erik Bedard threw three and a third scoreless innings for his first career save.
SEVERAL YANKEES ON D.L. The Yankees made it official and placed Curtis Granderson, Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira and Phil Hughes on the disabled list, all retroactive to March 22.
Granderson said he was scheduled to have follow-up X-rays on his injured forearm Monday.
Hughes said he was scheduled to pitch Saturday for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and rejoin the Yankees in Cleveland next week.
BRADLEY MAKES BOSTON ROSTER The dynamic rookie outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. has made Boston's opening day roster and will start in Monday's opener against the Yankees.
Taken with the 40th overall pick in the 2011 amateur draft, Bradley batted .419 in spring training with a .507 on-base percentage.
The Red Sox had intended to start Bradley in the minors, but a spot was open because David Ortiz and Stephen Drew are injured.
MARLINS ADD TOP PICK The pitching prospect Jose Fernandez was added to the Miami Marlins' roster, and he is scheduled make his major league debut next Sunday against the Mets.
The unexpected move comes because of injuries to the right-handers Nathan Eovaldi and Henderson Alvarez. They had been announced as part of the rotation, but instead both will start the season on the disabled list because of shoulder inflammation.
Fernandez was the Marlins' first-round draft pick in 2011 and has not pitched above Class A.
SEATTLE KEEPS BAY The Seattle Mariners designated outfielder Casper Wells for assignment and kept Jason Bay as the club's fifth outfielder, completing their 25-man active roster ahead of Monday night's opener against the Oakland Athletics.
In 18 exhibition games, he batted .321 .

Thierry Henry scored his first goal of the season, breaking a tie in the 81st minute and giving Mike Petke his first win as the Red Bulls' coach, 2-1 over the visiting Philadelphia Union on Saturday.
Henry, who came on for Tim Cahill in the 59th minute, finished a beautiful feed from Peguy Luyindula to win it for the Red Bulls (1-2-2). Dax McCarty's goal in the 55th minute snapped a scoreless string of 307 minutes for the Red Bulls.

The Montreal Canadiens continued their mastery of the Rangers, sweeping the teams' three-game season series with a 3-0 victory Saturday night.
Michael Ryder, Tomas Plekanec and Brendan Gallagher had goals for the host Canadiens, who outscored the Rangers by 9-1 in the three games. Montreal moved 3 points ahead of Boston for first in the Northeast Division.
The Rangers, the N.H.L.'s lowest-scoring team, were coming off a 3-0 loss in Ottawa on Thursday night. They have been shut out in goalie Martin Biron's last four starts in Montreal.
Canadiens goalie Carey Price, who had been pulled from his last game, a 6-5 win in Boston on Wednesday, made 34 saves to earn his 3rd shutout of the season and 19th over all.
"We have to stay positive," Rangers Coach John Tortorella said. "We'll try to correct some things that are going wrong, but we'll work on the positives."
Tortorella added: "We skated hard. We forechecked and developed scoring chances. But we can't have any moral victories here. We need to finish at key times. We have to change momentum our way."
